Questions for Tactical Media Reading

1. With the understanding that tactical media can be offensive and start arguments, is there not a right for freedom of expression to dissolve such arguments? Who can really define art when it is simply expression?

2. Following the above question, should all tactical media artists should avoid causing symbolic issues such as the road signs that are discussed at the end of the reading?

Artist Statement for Interventionist Design

This project was more fun than I expected. Although I ran into troubles with installing a new hard drive on my computer, not having photoshop, and the trial refusing to download, I managed to get this done. I chose to make fun of Rick (Dick) Santorum because I do believe that he is an awful candidate to run for president due to his viewpoint and sexist attitude towards women.

Artist Statement for Video Project

This project was as much fun as it was tedious. I loved the creative aspect in being able to virtually produce whatever type of video we so desired, and choosing our subjects for that as well was amusing. However I wish I had chosen a different source to put together my movie; iMovie is an excruciatingly annoying program that does not abide by its own rules. I ended up using two types of computers to complete this project: a PC to upload my videos to youtube, and a Mac to make the video. I also ripped the audio off of the original video with iMovie.
The quality is not the best and I wish I had a tripod when filming, but the time of day was perfect for the setting and turned out just the way I had wanted. My roommates are now video stars!

Questions for Chapter 2 Video Art:

1. In the 1960s television was considered "poisonous" due to Americans watching up to seven hours a day. If that was so, why did video art become popular?

2. Artists like Peter D'Agostino created shows to distinguish viewers from "experiential reality" and "television reality", but wouldn't this only be harmful because it would only draw the audience more into the television?
